Dehumidifier not working

The compressor is a pump which compresses the refrigerant and circulates the refrigerant through the evaporator and condenser coils. If the compressor is not working, the dehumidifier won’t cool. However, this isn’t usually the case. Before replacing the compressor, first check all of the more commonly defective components. If all of the other components are working properly, use a multimeter to test the compressor for continuity. If the compressor does not have continuity, replace it.

Dehumidifier is loud or noisy

The compressor might be wearing out. Dehumidifier compressors are generally noisy during normal operation. However, if the compressor is making unusual noises or is abnormally loud, this may indicate that the compressor is wearing out. Because compressors often last for years after they start to wear out, it is not usually cost-effective to replace a noisy compressor.

Heat pump not cooling

The compressor is a pump which compresses the refrigerant and circulates the refrigerant through the evaporator and condenser coils. If the compressor is not working, the unit won’t cool. However, this isn’t usually the case. Before replacing the compressor, first check all of the more commonly defective components. If all of the other components are working properly, use a multimeter to test the compressor for continuity. If there is an open circuit, the compressor is likely defective. If the compressor is defective, it must be replaced by a licensed technician.

Heat pump not heating

The compressor is a pump which compresses the refrigerant and circulates the refrigerant through the evaporator and condenser coils. If the compressor is not working, the unit won’t heat.

Heat pump is noisy or loud

The compressor pumps refrigerant through the heating and cooling system. When the compressor is wearing out, it generates more noise than usual. When this happens, it is not necessary to replace the compressor—compressors often last for years after they become noisy. However, if you would prefer to have a new compressor, you must have a licensed professional replace it.

Heat pump won't turn on

The compressor is a pump which compresses the refrigerant and circulates the refrigerant through the evaporator and condenser coils. If the compressor is not working, the heat pump won't turn on. If the compressor is defective, it must be replaced by a licensed technician.

Heat pump compressor won't run

The compressor is a pump which compresses the refrigerant and circulates the refrigerant through the evaporator and condenser coils. If the compressor is defective or worn out, it likely won't run. However, this isn’t usually the case. Before replacing the compressor, first check all of the more commonly defective components. If all of the other components are working properly, use a multimeter to test the compressor for continuity. If there is an open circuit, the compressor is likely defective.

Heat pump circuit breaker keeps tripping

The compressor is located in the outdoor unit and gets power through a service panel box next to the unit. If the compressor is shorted the fuses in the service panel box or the main breaker box may trip. You can test the compressor for shorts by using a multimeter. If the compressor windings are shorted the compressor itself, or the whole unit, will need to be replaced.
