KitchenAid Refrigerator Main Control Board Replacement W11224256

This video provides step-by-step repair instructions for replacing the main control board on a KitchenAid Refrigerator (Model KRFF507HPS02). The most common reason for replacing this part is if the refrigerator will not work at all. All of the information for this video is applicable to the following brands: KitchenAid

Refrigerator

Refrigerator not cooling

Control appliance functions with this replacement main control board, part number W11224256, built for select Maytag, Whirlpool, or KitchenAid Refrigerators.

The main control board might be defective. However, this is almost never the cause. Before replacing the main control board, test all of more commonly defective parts. If none of the other components are defective, consider replacing the main control board.

Refrigerator water dispenser not working

A refrigerator's main control board governs most of the functions of the appliance including the dispenser system. If the control board is faulty, it may stop supplying power to the entire dispenser system. If only one dispenser part is not working, test each of the dispenser components before testing the control board. It is more likely that a single part has failed. If the entire dispenser system is not working, the main control board is more likely to be at fault.

Refrigerator ice maker not working

The refrigerator's main control board controls the voltage being sent to the ice maker. If the control board is defective, the ice maker may not work at all. You can inspect the board for signs of damage or a shorted component. You can also use a multimeter to determine if voltage is reaching the ice maker after reviewing the refrigerator's wiring diagram.

Refrigerator ice dispenser not working

Refrigerator not defrosting

The main control board regulates the power supply to all of the refrigerator components, including the defrost system. If the main control board is defective, it may stop sending voltage to the defrost system. Control boards are frequently misdiagnosed—before replacing the main control, first test all of the defrost system components. If none of the defrost system components are defective, consider replacing the main control board.

Refrigerator defrost drain clogged

The main control board regulates the power supply to all of the refrigerator components, including the defrost system. If the main control board is defective, it may stop sending voltage to the defrost system which can lead to the defrost drain becoming clogged with ice. Control boards are frequently misdiagnosed—before replacing the main control, first test all of the defrost system components. If none of the defrost system components are defective, consider replacing the control board.

Refrigerator freezer is cold but refrigerator is warm

The main control board might be defective. However, the control board is very rarely the cause of the problem. Before replacing the control board, first test all of the more commonly defective components. If none of these components are defective, consider replacing the main control board.

Refrigerator freezing food

Refrigerator ice and water dispenser not working

The main control board might be defective. However, the control board is rarely at fault for this problem. Before replacing the control board, first check all of the dispenser components. If none of the dispenser components are defective, consider replacing the main control board.

Refrigerator light not working

While it's not a likely cause, a defective main control board could be responsible for a refrigerator light not working. You can inspect the board for signs of burning or a shorted-out component. You can also use a multimeter to determine if the board is sending voltage to the light socket or plug-in connecter. If no voltage is present, you'll know the board is defective and will need to be replaced.

Refrigerator runs constantly

If the refrigerator runs constantly, the main control board might be defective. A few times a day the control board is supposed to turn off the cooling system and turn on the defrost heater to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the freezer evaporator coils. If the control board is defective it could cause the system to never cycle into defrost.

Refrigerator control panel not working

The main control board might be defective. However, the control board is rarely at fault for this problem. Before replacing the control board, first check all of the dispenser components. If none of the dispenser components are defective, consider replacing the main control board.

Refrigerator freezer not freezing

The main control board monitors the compartment temperatures and sends power to the various components when needed. Control boards are often misdiagnosed. If a part is not working, test the part first before replacing the board.

Refrigerator has a bad smell or burning smell

If the main control board has shorted it can produced a burning smell. You can inspect the board for any burn damage and replace if necessary.

Refrigerator has frost or ice buildup

Ice Maker in Refrigerator Compartment Not Working

Refrigerator not running

If nothing is working on the refrigerator, it's likely the main control board is defective. However, this is almost never the cause. Before replacing the main control board, test all of more commonly defective parts. If none of the other components are defective, consider replacing the main control board.

Refrigerator beeping/alarm sounding

If the refrigerator is cooling properly and the door switch is functioning normally, a faulty control board could be the cause of the beeping noise. Replace the old control board with a new one to see if that resolves the problem.
