Dryer blower wheel. Used on 29 inch Whirlpool built models with lint filter on top. To remove the blower wheel, unscrew the blower wheel  clockwise off the motor shaft.

Dryer thermistor. This thermistor should read approximately 11.9K Ohms of resistance at 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21’ Celsius). If the thermistor is defective, it may prolong or shorten the drying time or cause a fault code. A defective thermistor is not responsible for a dryer not heating.

Air conditioner not cooling

An air conditioner fan motor is the component that spins the fan blade or blower wheel to circulate the air. If one of the fan motors is burned out, the air won't be circulated and the unit will not cool properly. You can use a multimeter to determine if power is reaching the fan motor. If power is reaching the motor, but it doesn't run, the component will need to be replaced.

Air conditioner fan not working

Try turning the blade by hand. If the blade does not turn freely, this indicates that the motor bearings are worn out. If the motor bearings are worn out, replace the motor. If the blade turns freely, test the incoming power to the fan motor. If power is getting to the fan motor, but the motor won’t run, this also indicates that the motor is defective and should be replaced. 

Air conditioner is loud or noisy

The fan blades might be scraping against the blower housing. Air conditioners have a fan blade in the front and a fan blade in the rear. Check both fan blades to ensure that they are not rubbing against the housing. If the blades aren’t rubbing against the housing and the fan motor is still noisy, check the fan motor bearings for wear. If the bearings are worn, replace the fan motor.

Air conditioner coils freezing

An air conditioner fan motor is the component that spins the fan blade or blower wheel to circulate the air. If one of the fan motors is burned out, the air won't be circulated properly which can cause the coils to freeze. You can use a multimeter to determine if power is reaching the fan motor. If power is reaching the motor, but it doesn't run, the component will need to be replaced.

Furnace is noisy or loud

Over time, the bearings in the blower motor or the draft inducer fan motor can wear out, causing the motor to become noisy. Some furnace motors can be lubricated—if your furnace motor can be lubricated, try lubricating it first. If lubricating the motor doesn’t solve the problem, or if your motor can’t be lubricated, replace the motor.

Central air conditioner is noisy or loud

The fan motor has bearings that can wear out over time. When the bearings are worn out, they make loud noise. To check the bearings, try rotating the fan motor by hand. If the motor does not turn smoothly, replace it.

Central Air Conditioner Condenser fan motor does not run

To determine if the fan motor is working, use a multimeter to test the incoming voltage to the motor. If the fan motor is receiving the correct voltage but the motor still won’t run, inspect the capacitor to ensure that it is not at fault. If the capacitor is not bulging or leaking, replace the fan motor.

Central Air Conditioner Condensing unit does not run

A faulty fan motor can be responsible for the central air conditioner condensing unit not running. You can use a multimeter to test the fan motor for electrical continuity, a continuous electrical path present in the motor, to help determine if the motor is defective. You can also use the multimeter to determine if power is reaching the motor. You can also try rotating the fan blades by hand. If the blades do not turn freely, it's likely the motor bearings have seized and the fan motor will need to be replaced.

Central air conditioner circuit breaker keeps tripping

If the outdoor condensing unit's breaker or fuses keep tripping the condenser fan motor may be to blame. To determine if the outdoor fan motor is shorted, use a multimeter to test the motor windings for a short to ground. If the outdoor fan motor will not turn freely or the windings are shorted, it will need to be replaced.
