The door switch turns off the ice and water dispenser when the refrigerator door is open. If the door switch fails, the dispenser will not turn on. To determine if the door switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the door switch does not have continuity when activated, replace it.

You can use a multimeter to test the door switch for electrical continuity. If the switch has continuity both before and after the switch has been actuated, it has shorted closed and will need to be replaced.

Refrigerator beeping/alarm sounding

A refrigerator door switch is used to turn on the interior lights when a door is opened and to ensure the door with a water and ice dispenser is closed before dispensing ice. If the switch is defective, it may signal to the control that a door is open even when it is fully closed resulting in a beeping alarm sound. When mold grows in the drain pan, it is sometimes considered to be a health concern. If your drain pan is removable, and if you're sensitive to mold, consider cleaning the drain pan periodically. Under your refrigerator/freezer is a set of coils and a cooling fan that you need to clean at least once a year. The coils may look like a grate or like a wide radiator.
