DescriptionThis video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the carburetor on MTD small engines, commonly found on Craftsman, Cub Cadet, and MTD snowblowers. The most common reason for replacing the carburetor is when it is clogged, causing the engine to run poorly or not run at all, and cleaning the carburetor does not fix the problem.
All of the information in this carburetor replacement video is applicable to the following brands: MTD, Craftsman, Cub Cadet
Tools used: 3/8” socket, 10mm socket
Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you replace the carburetor on your snowblower engine, make sure the engine has cooled and the ignition key has been removed.

Now, carefully tip the snowblower forward so it rests on the auger housing.
3
Detach the choke lever extension.

Next, use a 3/8 inch socket to unthread the three mounting screws securing the lower shroud.
5
Lift the lower shroud off.
6
Now, release the primer hose from the carburetor.
7
Use locking pliers to crimp the fuel line, then release the retaining clamp to detach the line from the carburetor.
8
Next, use a 10 millimeter socket to unthread the nuts securing the air intake housing.
9
Detach the primer hose from the retaining bracket.
10
Detach the breather tube from the valve cover, then lift off the housing and set it aside.
11
Slide off the carburetor inlet gasket.

Realign the inlet gasket or install a new one.
17
Reposition the air intake housing and attach the breather tube to the valve cover.
18
Secure the primer hose in the retaining bracket.

Rethread the nuts to secure the housing and tighten.
20
Attach the fuel line to the new carburetor and secure it with the retaining clamp.

Replace the lower shroud by first inserting the tabs into the slots in the frame.
23
Position the shroud and rethread the mounting screws.
24
Replace the choke lever extension with the support tabs facing up.
25
Return the snow blower to its upright position.
