DescriptionThis video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the float switch on Whirlpool dishwashers. The most common reasons for replacing the float switch are when the dishwasher overfills with water, though this is more likely the water inlet valve not shutting off properly, or when the dishwasher won’t fill.
All of the information in this float switch video is applicable to the following brands: KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Ikea, Amana, Jenn Air, Maytag, Inglis
Tools used: multi-screwdriver, flat-blade screwdriver
Step-By-Step Instructions1
As with any repair, be sure to turn off the power to your dishwasher before beginning.
2
To make it easier to access the float switch, we recommend removing the outer door panel.
3
To do this, remove the screws from inside the door which secure the outer panel.
4
With the screws removed, pull the panel down then lift it up and out.
5
Now rotate the lower access panel fasteners counter-clockwise to remove then pull out the access panel and sound dampening pad.
6
Next, open the two float switch housing covers.
7
Disconnect the wire connecter from the switch and pull off the actuator.
8
You can now pull out the old switch.
9
Install the new float switch by inserting it into the housing and pushing it into place.
10
Reposition the actuator and connect the wire connecter to the new switch.
11
Snap the housing covers shut.
12
Reposition the lower access panel and sound dampening pad then secure the panel with the fasteners.
13
Reinstall the outer door panel by first aligning it on the door hinges then slide the panel up and reinstall the screws in the inner panel to secure.
14
You’re now ready to restore power to the dishwasher and confirm that it’s working properly.
